The Painless Way to Set up Your Website

Posted in Internet Technology Resources, Web Parlor by admin on the February 3rd, 2010

Choosing the best domain and picking out the best suited web registration are the first things to research when establishing a website. This is not a painless decision making process. Because while you strive to nail down the best domain hosting you will likely detect that investigating the provider with the help of client feedback can prove to be a necessary way to go.

When you read domain hosting reviews, how will you know what is helpful and what is not? Don’t make any decisions before you discover which features are most important to your business. Choosing the same company for website hosting and registration of your domain name is a common choice. Support is an issue which could affect your company even a long time after your domain is registered. Any customer review featured on that provider’s website won’t be enough to base a decision on. It’s essential to look at an unbiased opinion before making a choice. You should make an effort to research as broad a variety of reviews as possible and study carefully the customers’ feedback. Do you read any concerns over and over again? What do existing customers consider is good about the company? Do good reviews outweigh the negative? Anticipate reading positive and negative customer reviews for every company. It’s generally wise to read all the reviews with an open mind and take everything into consideration. Of course, price is a principal factor, but it’s absolutely essential to get the optimum value for your money. To help you in making a selection there are a few bullets you should think over. During what hours does the company you are reading about provide customer support? Is there a toll free phone number, and can you deduce from the feedback if they have got an acceptable response time? What about bandwidth? Some companies offer limitless domain hosting and bandwidth as part of a deal, and sometimes you might be entitled to other rewards like software packages and various rebates. What types of payment will the company take? Are payments automatic, and are any discounts extended for payment in full? What will they do if the server fails? Ultimately it is up to you, but before you make that decision, do the most sensible thing and read the reviews. Checking out multiple domain hosting reviews will give you the opportunity to save lots of time and money at some later point.

Mobile Broadband Might Create Troubles for Anti-Piracy Laws

Posted in Consumers Den, Great Telecommunication Tips, Internet Technology Resources by admin on the December 22nd, 2009

The concerns of the broadband industry over the proposed measures under the government’s Digital Economy Bill were further aggravated by the fact that penal provisions for copyrights infringement proposed by the bill might not be applicable to the mobile broadband users after all.

The bill has drawn wide protests and opposition as it recommends disconnection of broadband users who are found in repeated violation of copyright laws involving downloading of copyrighted material from the internet. The framework was explained by Stephen Timms, minister for Digital Britain, who pointed out that when a copyright owner identifies his or her work as being infringed, the service provider can send a notice to the infringer to refrain from acts of illegal downloading. If the notice does not work, the authorities are free to resort to other measures, including temporary disconnection of the service.

However, the bill has been under much criticism as the users believe that the measure is too strict. A number of protests have already been registered against the bill, including a petition to Downing Street with thousands of signatures.

Quite recently, it was acknowledged by technology business news website ZDNet UK that broadband connections at homes might be easier to trace as there is a fixed IP address for the same, but tracing IP addresses for infringers using mobile broadband can be a daunting task, as a number of mobile broadband users use the same IP address.

Though this is not the only problem with the bill, this is certainly one of the most important issues in light of the growing mobile broadband and iPhone use.

If you have not yet joined the ranks of mobile internet users, there are a number of points to consider when choosing a mobile broadband option. Take a look at all the plans offered by the various operators, I found some excellent pay and go mobile broadband offers at Mobile Broadband Genie. You will be given all the information you need about each supplier on their comparative table of UK broadband providers to help guide you through the decision process.

Digital Divide is a Harsh Reality, According to Survey Findings

Posted in Consumers Den, Great Telecommunication Tips, Internet Technology Resources by admin on the December 8th, 2009

The digital divide, which denotes the gap between different sections of the society with respect to computer or internet access, is definitely a reality, and is more prominent than it seems to be. This was the purport of a recent survey conducted by the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE), which revealed that people belonging to different classes have different levels of internet access.

The study showed that almost one third of adults do not actually have access to a computer on a regular basis. As far as internet is concerned, the figures are even more dismal. It has been found that more than one third of adults cannot browse the net whenever they choose to.

The figures thus reveal a shocking disparity in the society in terms of computer access and digital connectivity. Even in this digital age, a significant percentage of population cannot claim reliable computer access. This is especially surprising, as more and more mobile internet-enabling devices are being lapped up by users in recent times.

Given this net-savvy trend, it is a generally accepted view that most people can access internet easily at a time of their choosing. However, this myth has been shattered by this survey, which has found that as with many other facilities, availability of computer or internet depends heavily on class, occupation and financial position.

The findings that about 86% of managerial and professional people can claim regular computer access while only 45% of those in unskilled manual and unemployed class can do so comes on the heels of the Government’s widely publicised ‘broadband-for-all by 2012

Posted in Consumers Den, Great Telecommunication Tips, Internet Technology Resources by admin on the October 25th, 2009

Mobile broadband major 3 has launched an innovative equipment designed to enhance the broadband experience greatly. It is the first of its kind in the UK, though similar gadgets are available in the US.

The small machine has been termed the MiFi. It is a wireless router, to be used in conjunction with an existing mobile broadband connection from 3. The equipment is powered by a battery.

This little gadget can be used to link up as many as five end users to a single mobile broadband service. Users can also utilize this gadget to connect up to five pieces of equipment using the same basic service from 3. These advantages come packed in a sleek and compact device, easily fitting into your pocket.

In addition to the obvious advantages of being able to expand your connectivity, MiFi gives you the benefits of connecting to WiFi rather than 3G. This means more efficient power usage, as WiFi connections consume less power than direct connections through 3G mobile broadband network.

In terms of costs, 3 offers two different MiFi schemes extending over a 18-month period - 5Gb pm at £15 with additional payment for the gadget which is around £70, or a Starter Kit, which at about £100 gives you a wireless modem and data worth 3GB with a 3- month limit.

LTE May Be the Ultimate Winner In Spite of a Strong Start by WiMax

Posted in Consumers Den, Great Telecommunication Tips, Internet Technology Resources by admin on the August 22nd, 2009

WiMax and Long Term Evolution (LTE) are competing to become the next landmark technology for wireless broadband. WiMax has already taken a head start as Clearwire, a company endorsing the technology in the USA, will soon provide services in 10 new areas of the country including pockets of Texas, Washington and Idaho, while LTE is yet to step into the US market.

American company, Verizon Wireless will launch LTE early next year. Clearwire intends to give WiMax an advantage over LTE by launching it before its rival. The company believes it will be able to attract approximately 1.5 million customers immediately. This is not too great a number considering the population of the country. However, it will definitely give WiMax an edge over the still-to-be-launched LTE. Clearwire has also predicted that their reach of WiMax will grow to about 120 million by 2010.

However, many have predicted that LTE will still beat WiMax in the future. According to technology and communications market analyst, Juniper Research, within the next five years the world will see people spending a lot more on LTE as compared to WiMax. Thus, if experts are to be believed LTE will be the ultimate winner, gaining more popularity and making more money than WiMax.

18% of US Computers Infected, McAfee Reveals

Latest data from McAfee, a computer security firm, has revealed that the number of “zombie” computers has increased to one and a half times since last year. Over 10 million new computers have been found to be hijacked since January 2009.

McAfee data shows that eighteen per cent of all computers in the US are infected, which is the highest rate in the world. At second position in the list of countries with the highest number of infected computers is China with a 13% infection rate. However, the UK is relatively safe as only 6% of its computers are working as zombie machines. Italy, with only 2-3% of its computers being affected, comes out as the safest country in this respect.

Along with infected computers, United States is also responsible for the menace of spamming. The US produces the largest number of spam among all countries. In the first few months of 2009, US had produced around one-third of the total spam circulating in the world. United Kingdom again does much better here and it does not feature among the ten countries in the list of the highest spam producers.

Greg Pellegrino of Deloitte, a global accounting and consulting firm, has said that there is a need for a quick response to resolve the issue of internet security as it results in a high economic cost and obviously threatens the safety of innocent internet users. Mobile Broadband is the Future, says Analysys Mason

Posted in Consumers Den, Great Telecommunication Tips, Internet Technology Resources by admin on the February 18th, 2009

Mobile broadband will be the leading form of broadband connections in Europe by 2015, and would be the key growth driver for the mobile industry, a report by Telecom Analysts, Analysys Mason, has said.

The report affirms that mobile broadband will beat fixed line broadband as it keeps growing at an average annual rate of 46%. At this rate, European mobile broadband subscribers would reach 148 million by 2014, accounting for half the total number of connections including fixed-line cable and DSL.

Matt Hatton, the report’s author, who is the principal analyst at Analysys Mason, commented that the key growth driver for mobile in Europe for the next 5 years would be mobile broadband. It is a major revenue stream which no operator would want to miss, as there is a marked slowdown in the revenue growth from voice service.

A major chunk of this growth would come from users who would go for a mobile broadband connection without giving up their existing fixed line connection. There is an increasing trend of users going for multiple broadband connections to enable different devices for different uses. It is quite common to have a broadband enabled mobile device and have a high speed fixed line broadband at home.

Jobs Faces Another Backdating Lawsuit

Posted in Great Telecommunication Tips, Internet Technology Resources, Web Parlor by admin on the January 21st, 2009

Steve Jobs and company are crossing their fingers as they face another lawsuit filed this July 2008. The whole gang of Apple big shots is now facing securities fraud for backdating schemes that transpired in the early part of this decade. Company stocks fell 2% after the lawsuit was filed.

Though not the first time that Jobs and the rest of his crew were accused of backdating the company shareholders’ stock options, the evidences of the current charge strongly points at Jobs and the rest of his entourage as directly responsible. So where does this put Jobs and his company? The first time Apple’s senior executives played with backdating, an investigation was launched and though Jobs was declared innocent, the blame was put on former CFO Fred Anderson and former counsel Nancy Heinen.

Backdating is a class-action lawsuit and if Jobs cannot wriggle his way out of this one, Apple will suffer for sure. The 2% plunge of stock value was a clear indication of that. The case is still pending though and it’s still uncertain when the verdict will be handed down. In the meantime, there is no way of saying whether the company will recover from such crisis fast.

Mobile Broad Band is going to be the Turning Point to the Spread of Internet Connections

Posted in Internet Technology Resources by admin on the January 1st, 2009

Mobile broadband is the trendiest discovery in the telecom technological world that is going to be the key to the future of high speed broadband. Until recently, high speed connection was available via a normal phone landline, Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line cable, that links to a PC terminal via an ADSL modem. Wireless broad band will be very famous, whereby the high speed modem is connected to the computer through a wireless intranet, and as a consequence many people are now getting rid of ADSL cables. But mobile broad-band will take the internet technology one step further and offering another innovative idea in the future of internet connectivity; a broadband line pretty much anywhere without the use of a landline cable. Compare Broadband UK allows you to compare mobile broadband online.

The idea of going online with a high speed internet speed at home is surely an attractive idea to potential users, like those people who more and more use their laptops not from home. Business people who regularly travel for work are the main obvious target for mobile broadband who will surely like the possibility of not having to search for a working WI-FI hotspot for a reliable internet connection. Mobile broadband reaches much further than that, and if costs start to decrease and connection lines become faster it might not be long before we experience the majority of broad band users applying for mobile broadband.

Mobile broad-band works by linking a portable modem to any modern PC terminal, generally referred to as a ‘dongle’, from where your laptop is able to work with the mobile high speed connection package the internet users have purchased. Many companies are now supplying mobile ADSL deals and coverage of the networks, also called third generation networks, which is now said to be more than 90% of England.

Internet speed has been an important factor for any broadband line and mobile high speed internet suppliers at the beginning struggled to convince users that mobile broadband could match up with conventional, ADSL landline high speed internet. Connections are changing, recently Vodafone has reported mobile broadband lines up to more than 7 mb, which is not that far from most of the landline connections. Many countries, including the UK, have decided to sponsor with money in fibre optic cable networks, in order improve high speed connection speeds to up to 100 mb.

In New Zealand a leading telecom provider has claimed that mobile broad-band networks will soon develop rapidly in the next future and they have announced that mobile high speed connection will deliver speeds of up to 100mb by 2011, the exact year the United Kingdom’s fibre optic network will be completed. This could create a serious step in industry thinking, with the creation of a reliable super fast mobile high speed connection network with serious advantages over the installation of lots of Kilometres of fibre optic cables, without mentioning the practical point of view.
