45-Man Turbo SNG

Posted in Cheats + Games, Fun + Enjoyment, Gambling World by admin on the January 28th, 2010

These turbo multi-table poker online sit and go’s often feel like a shot in the dark. You need to start building chips early to be able to stand a chance at getting to the final table. The 5 minute blinds don’t give you much time to wait for cards, so in my opinion, you have to make some things happen on your own.

I’d chipped up from 1500 to a little over 1900 by just being really active at my poker table. After 10 minutes, the blinds were up to 25/50. This is where the game gets going. A standard 3x raise brings you to 150, and if you try to 3-bet here, you’re putting in a chunk of your stack that makes folding to a 4-bet unlikely.

So, I was put in a tough spot, being dealt 99 in the high-jack (button -2). A player in middle position bet 3x to 150 and I had to decide if I should flat call or raise. I even considered folding, but figured that would be too weak. I had just under 40 BB’s, and while that is reasonably deep, it’s not enough to safely fold a hand just to stay out of trouble.

Knowing I have to play this hand, should I try to set-mine by flat calling in position, or do I think my hand is strong enough to try and play back with preflop?

I decided to flat-call.

Instead I shove for 1755 total. This gives me no chance at folding. I have to be right that I have the best hand or can get him to fold. He had AA and I lost at the casino.

Overdefending the Big Blind

Posted in Cheats + Games, Fun + Enjoyment, Gambling World by admin on the December 9th, 2009

Big blinds are fun for those of us who are selective about which hole cards they’ll play. Since you’re already in the pot, the flop is free if you don’t get raised. It’s kind of thrilling for online poker nerds-you wouldn’t normally play these cards, but it’s nice to feel like a reckless player every now and then.

The problem for people who share my affection for the big blind arises when they sit down at a more aggressive table. At an aggressive poker online table, someone’s likely to raise the hand pre-flop, so that flop that you were looking forward to won’t be happening unless you’ve got a good starting hand. This can become trouble for online poker players who get so attached to their big blinds that they start defending them, even though their hands aren’t worth the original bet. If you get raised on the big blind, the free hand is over and it’s time to start reconsidering your hand.

If the blinds get raised, your knee-jerk reaction can be to call it and at least see the flop. I mean, you’ve already got some cash invested, so you might as well, right? Wrong. Remember-unless you got some good hole cards, the big blind is only appealing because it’s ‘free’.

The Elottery System Secures a Prize to Each and Every Participant Participating in the Spanish El Gordo Lottery

Posted in Fun + Enjoyment by admin on the November 17th, 2009

The El Gordo Loteria is a part of the Euromillions Euro lottery, but if you don’t know anymore than that you definitely need to find out more. With payouts between eighty-four million and 2.6 billion Euros, the lottery claims one of the world’s richest jackpots. This is not the lottery’s only claim to fame. With more than thirteen thousand prizes being offered your chances of winning a prize mean that there will be one winner in every six tickets. When compared with the prizes being pitched by other lotteries, that’s pretty good.

Once per month the Euromillions Euro lottery holds a draw. Even bigger prizes can be won from featured draws held during three months around the year. More specifically: the January “El Nio”, the Summer “San Ildefonso”, and the Xmas “Elgordo” with the Christmas El Gordo lottery being the richest and most popular of the 12.

Unlike other lottery systems, the Elgordo Lottery uses balls with five digits printed on each ranging from 00,000 to 84,999. Two bowls are employed, one being used to determine a winner, the second the amount.

If you want to have a chance to win there is a full ticket called a “serie”. The other option is cheaper; called a “d©cimo” which is worth one-tenth of a full ticket. Neither option is especially cheap, however, and of course neither has a better chance of being a winner. For this reason the e-lottery system is used by many Euromillions Euro lottery players.

This system guarantees a prize for every participant. Simply buy your way into the Elgordo Lotto syndicate which will then divide you up into teams. With each team numbered between 0 - 9, the final digit on the winning ball determines the winners who will take the prize. Every member will receive their share . Afterward, subscriptions are sold for the syndicate ready for the next drawing.

It is typical to worry about whether it would be worth sharing these payoffs. What you have to remember is that when the initial amount is 2.6 billion Euros, a share works out at a substantial sum of money. You’ll find the e-lottery program is far more affordable, and knowing that you’ll share in a prize once a month, there are no worries about losing all the time. The syndicate is the truly smart way to play …

Learn to Be Selective

Posted in Cheats + Games, Fun + Enjoyment, Gambling World by admin on the November 11th, 2009

No poker online strategy or poker hand wins every time. There is too much variation in the players and each person’s position in the betting order. Poker experts and champions all agree that aggressive tactics are powerful tools for winning pots, but aggression just for aggression’s sake is poor play and will lose chips.

Aggressive poker play is key to winning some pots, and selectivity is the key to leveraging aggression in poker. You must learn to recognize the best times to use aggressive tactics. You will have to fold many hands, and wait for opportunities with good pot odds or where you’re fairly certain a scare tactic will win the pot. For instance, when you have lots of odds to a flush or straight, with good pot odds, it’s worth making the aggressive bet. If you know you are up against a tight rock who will most likely fold in the face of an aggressive bet, then use that tactic.

To be selectively aggressive, you need to be observant of the other players’ styles and tendencies, and to be alert to what is on board and the best possible hand it can make.

Being a selective aggressive player means sometimes you’ll seem like a tight rock who consistently folds, and sometimes you act like a maniac putting out big raises. It helps to confound your opponents in getting a read on you. The best situations to leverage aggression is when you are up against tight players, when scare cards appear, if there are loose callers behind you, or when there is dead money already in the pot.

Get Leverage from Value Betting

Posted in Cheats + Games, Fun + Enjoyment, Gambling World by admin on the September 9th, 2009

The flop in Texas Hold ‘Em poker often just turns up rags and no big cards. It’s safe to assume that some callers after the blinds have high ranking cards and the flop missed their hands. But there could be a hidden pocket pair out there that just hit trips. If the raggy flop has paired one of your cards, the best strategy is to make a value bet - one that equals half the pot. A large bet here, where you are making decisions with incomplete information, could cost you a lot of poker online chips. A value bet can persuade players who missed the flop entirely to fold their hands rather than gamble on a bigger card materializing on the turn or river. You’ll probably be facing only one or two opponents after a value bet. This is the point when scare cards can appear - cards that could complete a straight or a flush. Consider your position, your chip stack size and the other poker online players’ betting. Another value bet could win you the pot. If called, it gives you information about another player’s hand, which could still be a draw against your medium pair. A raise made after your value bet probably indicates your hand is beat. If your value bet is called, but not raised, continue with another value bet on the river. Value bets can get you leverage from scare cards without risking a lot of chips. These types of bets don’t create big pots, but still offer a profit because you’ve made small incremental investments in the pot. And you’ve only risked a small amount if you are beat.

PLO Eight or Better - Nut Hi Hand Lost Money

Posted in Cheats + Games, Fun + Enjoyment, Gambling World by admin on the July 8th, 2009

I played a live Pot Limit Omaha 8 or better online poker tournament this week. There were only 15 players or so. Everyone started with 10,000 chips and the blinds at 25/50. How some people nearly got knocked out in the first few hands at the other table, I will never know.

At my table I basically played my poker online game rather tight in the early stages. The only reason to advocate playing loose in the beginning would be to take down a large pot and then be able to switch to tight play until the blinds got larger. In a small tournament field akin to a sit and go, there isn’t much to do in the beginning. If you keep playing every hand, you’re probably going to spew back your profit on the luck hands by calling raises and limping too much. If keep your hand selection high and stick to playing in position, you will maintain your starting stack, which was more than generous, for a long time. In Limit games, and even pot limit games, you can always make a nice comeback with a short stack. As long as you have a good hand that connects with the board, you’re going to get multi-way action. Unlike No Limit games, no one is going to isolate against your short-stack all-in. They can only raise a certain amount and it is far more likely that you will get 3x or 4x your stack size as a reward if you win the hand.

Keeping this in mind, my online poker table was doing a lot of limping and playing after the flop. This meant that in late position I could almost always see a flop for a call of the BB. This was extremely valuable once the blinds were high. Now, I’d have hand selection and position on my side and the pots would be larger.

There was an interesting hand that I was not involved in: 6, 7, K, Q, 8 was the board. There was a little action on the flop, and I think it checked around on the turn. But when the 8 came so did the action. Player A, a short stack, bet the pot something like 2,000. Player B called. Player C raised all-in about 7k. Player A called for much less, and Player B then showed me his hand. K, J, 10, 9. He had the nut high hand with the straight to the ten, as the board was not coordinated for a flush. His reservation was that he had no lo hand. He had the nut-high hand, but so could one or both of the other players. If he called and this was the case, he could be chopping the high pot and losing the lo pot.

What Are Casino Poker Games?

Posted in Cheats + Games, Fun + Enjoyment, Gambling World by admin on the April 9th, 2009

The types of poker online games that are technically classified as casino poker games are actually very different from your standard poker varieties. Unlike Texas hold’em or seven card stud, casino poker games can only be played within the confines of a casino. There are no home game varieties of casino poker games because they operate on a different odds system.

In a lot of ways, casino poker games like three card poker, let it ride, Caribbean stud, and video poker are closer to traditional table games. In all of these poker varieties a player plays against the house, not the other players. Of course, this means that there is no bluffing involved. You can’t bluff a casino, so casino poker games are not for you if you put a lot of stock in your ability to read people.

What are the perks of casino poker games over the tried and true varieties? Well, for one thing the structure of the games means that you could eventually lower the house edge with practice and patience. Like in blackjack, house edges are always up for manipulation by shrewd players that really know their stuff. You can also win bigger jackpots at casinos than you could at a casual game among friends. The flip side of this is that you actually need to be in a casino to play. Unless you opt for an online casino, travelling to a casino can involve additional costs that you will need to take out of your bankroll.

Newcomers to the Poker Hall of Fame

Posted in Cheats + Games, Fun + Enjoyment, Gambling World by admin on the November 26th, 2008

The poker Hall of Fame has announced its 2008 induction Class, Duane “Dewey” Tomko, a three-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner, a two-time Main Event runner-up, and the holder of the longest consecutive Main Event participation record (35 years) will become poker’s newest Hall of Fame member.

Tomko will enter alongside Henry Orenstein, a Holocaust survivor who won the 1996 World Series of Poker Seven-Card Stud Championship and also cashed twice in the Main Event, including a final table finish at the 1995 World Series of Poker Main Event. Orenstein perhaps is better known for his real occupation - an inventor - holding more than 100 patents, including those for Sesame Street toys, Snoopy toys, the Transformers and U.S. Patent 5,451,054, which gave Orenstein the exclusive right to detect and display hole cards in poker games. Of course, without that last invention, televised poker would not be nearly as popular or prevalent as it is now.

Orenstein and Tomko will be enshrined on Sunday, November 9 at the Penn & Teller Theater at the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas during the finale of the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event championship. ESPN will show portions of the ceremony during their November 11 telecast. The enshrinement and WSOP final table play are open and free to the public. Seating is available on a first come, first serve basis. The poker Hall of Fame, established in 1979, was acquired by Harrah’s Entertainment along with the World Series of Poker in 2004
