Songbird Estates has decided to buy an extra 8.5% equity in one the most successful estate developers in London, Canary Wharf Group (CWG). It is one of the prime business locations in the heart of London, and Songbird has already acquired around 30 buildings in the area.

However, the news is that the proposed expansion is to be funded by Qatar Holding and China Investment Corporation (CIC) in parts. The former company, a primary organ of Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), handles the strategic and direct investment matters for the organization. It has confirmed its plans of becoming a substantial shareholder in Songbird Estates by funding a part of its next venture.

The present assets of Songbird in CWG value around £113million and the proposed purchase of £54mn of shares in CWG will increase their shareholding by 7.9%. Ahmad al-Sayed, the CEO of Qatar Holding, clarified his position on the matter by declaring a proposed fund raising programme for the cause in pursuance to their intentions. In fact, Qatar Holding will invest around £150mn in the venture and the rest of the investment will be made by CIC.
