Hydro Energy for the Home.

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the November 30th, 2008

Can I really use hydro energy to power my home?

There are really very few people who would be able to take advantage of hydropower in their homes. A small stream simply isn’t going to be big enough to power even a micro hydro energy system but if you happen to be one of the very lucky few who have a reasonable size stream or waterway of any sort running through your land then hydro power is an excellent form of power and you should consider looking into it. It has one big advantage over any other sort of renewable energy you may be considering for your home. It will create power 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The wind may stop blowing and the sun might stop shining but the water will always keep flowing. You can get hold of micro hydro turbines that will work with as little as 2 feet of water drop but still may provide you with enough power for the whole year.

Cover all your bases with wind and solar.

Combining this with a turbine and solar energy and you could probably power your neighbor’s houses too. Get a grid tie system which will enable you to buy energy from the grid and sell it back to the grid as well; you could be making a small profit as well as becoming completely energy self sufficient and doing your bit to beat global warming.

Finding a hydropower solution for your home.

There are fewer companies that deal with selling and fitting hydropower units simply because there is much less demand for it, but shop around you will be able to find one eventually. Find solar and wind energy companies and ask them if they do micro hydro generators as well; even if they don’t supply them themselves they may be able to put you in touch with a company who does. Calculate the drop you could get from the water as well as the average water flow so you can give them your measurements and they will be able to tell you what system is required and if it’s a viable solution, and if you find the right company they will probably come out and work that out for you.

Canyon Industries.

Canyon Industries Inc are manufacturers of micro hydro generators and are worth considering if you are serious about hydropower. You can visit their site at www.canyonindustriesinc.com and contact them for further information as well as for guidance on your waterflow.

Guide to Wooden Flooring

Posted in Tips + Tricks, University of Home Improvement by admin on the November 29th, 2008

If you are debating whether wooden flooring is right for your home it’s critical that you are familiar with the main wooden flooring terms. There are huge array of online flooring retailers, and its important to understand there are multiple factors which determine how wood looks, and makes each wooden floor look unique. There is a very slim chance that the wooden floor you saw in the showroom or on the internet will look exactly the same as when it’s fitted in your home.

The reason people like hardwood floors is that they are not uniform. One factor which effects how the wood looks is how close the wood is to the bark of the tree, this is called sapwood. The closer to the outside of the tree, the lighter the colour the wood will appear. The grain of the wood is another major factor, this can vary is direction and also changes in appearance depending on the colour of the wood fibers. The growth rings of the tree are also a significant factor when determining how the wood looks. Tightly packed layers of wood are likely to result in a darker colour, these are formed when only a marginal layer of wood is added per year during a growing season. Other factors which can have an effect on the wood are mineral Streaks. These occur when trace elements are in the water, resulting in grey and olive markings. Knots are also a big factor in the appearance of your flooring, and are produced where branches of a tree have been encased, as the tree has grown. Often lower grade flooring will have more knots in it than higher grade.

The great thing about wooden flooring is its durability, and also the ease with which damage can be repaired. But as a natural product, as opposed to synthetic, it is also prone to expand and contract during changes in the weather or season. This needs to be taken into account when your floor is fitted.

The Importance of Phonics

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the November 27th, 2008

“Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is the probable reason why so few engage in it.” -Henry Ford

Man’s ability over all other creatures on this Earth is the ability to think. All successful people use this talent to improve their lives and control their own destiny. Only you can take the initial step toward the unleashing of the power within your own mind. The power is awesome and at times can be frightening. However, man has abilities of the mind that many people can not or would not believe. Anthony Robbins has recently written a book entitled “Unlimited Power” which explains in simple terms the theories of Neuro Linguistic Programming, the power of the mind and how to gain control and use it. NLP was originally developed by John Grinder and Richard Bandler as a communication system using the central nervous system. Through this system Mr. Robbins has put forth a complete outline on how to unleash your “performance power” and achieve goals that before you probably felt were impossible.

The first step in using your true mental abilities is understanding what Mr. Robbins refers to as the seven triggering mechanisms that is sure success.

  1. Passion - All truly successful people such as Lee Iacocca have a driving force within them that sets them apart from others. A desire, an energy that gives them the fuel to reach their true potential. This force is a part of them 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It never subsides. Their total existence is sustained for the fulfillment of their goals. The passion within this individual to achieve has been so deeply implanted, that their mental power is driven by this force and will not let them do anything other than achieve.

  2. Belief - “They can because they think they can”-Virgil.

You will only make $100,000 this year if you first believe you can. If you do not believe you can you are telling yourself you want it, but it is truly not obtainable. The truth of life is that man’s limits are self imposed by what the mind is given to believe. If you expand your belief of your own abilities, you will also expand your true realm of accomplishment. A man of whom all are aware, lived his life with adversity, but he constantly believed he could achieve.

    • Failed in business at age 31

    • Was defeated in a legislative race at age 32

    • Failed again in business at age 34

    • Overcome death of sweetheart at age 35

    • Had a nervous breakdown at age 36

    • Lost an election at age 38

    • Lost a congressional race at age 43

    • Lost a congressional race at age 46

    • Lost a congressional race at age 48

    • Lost a Senatorial race at age 55

    • Failed to become Vice President at age 56

    • Lost a Senatorial race at age 58

    • Was elected President of the United States at age 60

With all the adversity that faced him, President Abraham Lincoln had no reason to continually try other than the fact that he believed it was his destiny and measure of success to accomplish this task.

“Man is what believes” -Anton Checkhov

  3. Strategy - A strategy is your game plan of life. The road map you will use to accomplish your goals, ambitions and desires. Just to believe you can earn $100,000 a year is not enough, you must design a strategy that gives your life direction and navigates you toward success. The key to strategy is to design a proper strategy to achieve your success without the detours of life, to find the shortest distance between two points.

  4. Clarity of Values - Man must first determine which things in life are most valuable to him. He must determine his feeling about such things as patriotism, pride, love, freedom, excellence, ownership and tolerance. These are values in society, the moral, ethical and fundamental judgements that we, as individuals, deem important. Without a clear system of values for ourselves, it is impossible to believe in something with a passion that has no value to us. Once we have established our individual value system we are then able to determine how we can achieve success based on our priority of values. What must we five up in one hand to accomplish what we desire on the other. Without a value system we can never move forward for we may be trading without increasing our potential for success.

  5. Energy - Without the physical vitality to take action, nothing would ever come of our system to this point. The passion could build, our belief of accomplishment could be overwhelming, we could have the best strategy or map to achieve the ultimate value for our own life, but if not for taking the first step, nothing could ever be accomplished. Great success cannot be separated from physical, spiritual and mental energy that allows us, compels us, to accomplish the most with what we have to work with. Physical energy comes from the strength of the body itself fueled by our intake of nourishment. It is therefore important that we fuel our engine with premium fuel (good eating habits), not low grade regular (junk food). Our spiritual and intellectual energy evolves from our environment and it is therefore important that we assess our own personal environment to maximize the energy that we can obtain.

  6. Bonding Power - We have all known people that have exhibited the ability to get along with anyone and everyone. The ability to be a chameleon is truly the ability to connect with and bond with others. The ability to build rapport. Being able to deal with others as Mr. Robbins says “To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others.” To be able to understand the…

  7. Mastery of Communication - To take charge and run your own mind. To learn the techniques of NLP and no longer allow our mind to run our lives, but rather take charge of our own mental abilities and cause them to work for our own accomplishment of success.

“There is only one Success - to be able to spend your life in your own way.” - Christopher Morley

How To Clean Your House In Hurry

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the November 27th, 2008

You’re lying on the couch in your living room, in one of your husband’s old t-shirts and a pair of baggie sweatpants, watching last night’s taped episode of Desperate Housewives, when suddenly - the phone rings. You don’t recognize the number on caller ID and you make the mistake of answering it. It’s your long lost best friend from the sixth grade. She’s in town and she just happens to be in your neighborhood. She’ll be over in 10 minutes, and your house is a MESS.

So, how do you clean up for unexpected guests in 10 minutes or less?!

1. Stay calm!

2. Do a clean sweep. Grab a trash bag or laundry basket and gather up everything that is lying around that shouldn’t be, and throw it into the bag. Hide the bag.

3. Plump up pillows on couches and chairs in living room, fold blankets. Give each cushion a swat for crumbs.

4. Stack mail, newspapers and magazines in a nice, neat pile. Stick the pile in a corner or on a kitchen chair.

5. Give the bathroom a speedy sprucing up! Wipe out the sink, wipe off the toilet seat and quickly swish the bowl. Then, close the shower curtain, and throw odds and ends in cabinets or drawers. Spray some air freshener so the bathroom will smell clean - even if it’s far from it.

6. Rinse off any dishes in the sink and stack them neatly or toss them in the dishwasher. Wipe off the table and counter tops.

7. Take a peek inside the fridge - what beverages and snacks do you have that you can offer your guests?

8. Close the doors to all rooms that you don’t want on display.

9. Light a yummy scented candle in the kitchen - like Cinnamon Buns or Chocolate Cake. Lighting a few scented candles will uplift the mood of your home and make guests feel welcome. Throw some fruit in a bowl and place it in the center of your table. Fresh flowers also do wonders, if you have them on hand.

10. Take a deep breath. Give yourself a squirt of perfume and you’re all set! You may even have enough time to get changed into something a little more presentable.

Cleaning up for unexpected guests does not have to be a mad rush, if you stay caught up on your housework as a rule. A friend of mine gave me some really good advice right after my husband and I got married, she said “The best way to keep a clean house is to entertain in your home at least once a month.” There’s nothing like having company coming to get cleaning!

Newcomers to the Poker Hall of Fame

Posted in Cheats + Games, Fun + Enjoyment, Gambling World by admin on the November 26th, 2008

The poker Hall of Fame has announced its 2008 induction Class, Duane “Dewey” Tomko, a three-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner, a two-time Main Event runner-up, and the holder of the longest consecutive Main Event participation record (35 years) will become poker’s newest Hall of Fame member.

Tomko will enter alongside Henry Orenstein, a Holocaust survivor who won the 1996 World Series of Poker Seven-Card Stud Championship and also cashed twice in the Main Event, including a final table finish at the 1995 World Series of Poker Main Event. Orenstein perhaps is better known for his real occupation - an inventor - holding more than 100 patents, including those for Sesame Street toys, Snoopy toys, the Transformers and U.S. Patent 5,451,054, which gave Orenstein the exclusive right to detect and display hole cards in poker games. Of course, without that last invention, televised poker would not be nearly as popular or prevalent as it is now.

Orenstein and Tomko will be enshrined on Sunday, November 9 at the Penn & Teller Theater at the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas during the finale of the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event championship. ESPN will show portions of the ceremony during their November 11 telecast. The enshrinement and WSOP final table play are open and free to the public. Seating is available on a first come, first serve basis. The poker Hall of Fame, established in 1979, was acquired by Harrah’s Entertainment along with the World Series of Poker in 2004

Hints On Writing Articles.

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the November 25th, 2008

What will you write about?

Writer’s block.

It happens to all of us at some time.

There are a number of ways of overcoming this problem. This is one that works for me.

The first thing that I need is an eye catching headline. That should not be a problem.

Log on to the internet and go to one of the article distribution companies. I use ‘iSnare’ http://www.isnare.com for the simple reason that is where I submit most of my articles but there are loads of others that are probably just as good.

Look down the list of articles until the headline of one of them jumps out at you. Or perhaps intrigues you and makes you want to read more.

STOP. Do not read the article. Close down the program and open your favourite word-processor.

Using the headline from above, write an article to suit that headline.

It will not be difficult. You already have the main idea. The first sentence, as usual should elaborate upon the headline. From there, it is up to you.

Before you know it, you are in full flow and the article almost writes itself.

When you are finished, go back and read the original article whose headline gave you the incentive. Don’t be surprised to find that the two articles are entirely different from one another. They are both unique.

Now go back to your own article and make a substantial change to your headline. Ideas are not copyrighted. THE WRITTEN WORD IS.

Provided you do not infringe another person’s copy-right you now have a fool-proof way of composing articles whenever you feel the urge to.

Go on. Write an article. Get lots of new leads. Sell a lot of goods. Make a lot of money.

Bob..

P.S. Don’t forget to write a good by-line including your URL to go with it.

Hill tribe silver jewelry from northern Thailand

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the November 25th, 2008

Hill tribe silver jewelry from northern Thailand, though hundreds of years old in its distinct design, works well accessorizing even the most up-to-date fashion trend. Hill tribe bracelets, for instance, can feel classic or contemporary or ethnic, depending upon their individual motif and design.
Over 100 years ago, the Hilltribe peoples migrated south from China into what are now Burma, Laos, Vietnam, and Thailand. The main profession of all these tribes is farming, and all of them tend to migrate whenever they feel that the soil at their present location is becoming depleted.
Approximately twenty distinct tribes of semi-nomadic peoples, collectively called hill tribes, live in the mountains along the Burmese and Laotian borders of northern Thailand. The largest and most prominent hill tribes are the H’mong, Akha, Lisu, Lahu, Meo, and Karen. Culturally the tribes are of interest because their relative isolation has enabled them to retain almost unchanged customs and traditions that go back centuries.
Each tribe is district, with its own culture, religion, language, art, and dress. With Thailand undergoing rapid modern development, it is difficult yet to say whether these tribes will continue in there traditional ways of life, or whether they will eventually be absorbed into the surrounding and ever more-encroaching Thai society.
A rich part of their cultural tradition is the making and wearing of silver jewelry. What once was a artistic skill honed in the tiny tribal villages in the mountains of northern Thailand now can be found produced in the factories of Thailand’s second largest city, Chang Mai. On Wualai Street in Chang Mai all manners of silver jewelry and silver objects are crafted. Intricate patterns of hill tribe-inspired designsbracelets, earrings, necklaces and ringsare hammered out by Thai silversmiths.
Aside from the work of the Chang Mai city artisans, a buyer of silver in northern Thailand can still purchase the less refined silverwork of the hill tribes.
Surprisingly enough, most hill tribes even today prefer silver to paper for money; the women usually wear their wealth in heavy chunky necklaces and earrings. Hill tribe jewelry purchased in northern Thailand is usually sold by the actual gram weight multiplied by the gram price of the day.
On the web site, www.jewelrycrossings.com, several beautiful designs of hill tribe bangles and bracelets are available in sterling silver. Intricate designs of woven or braided sterling as well as delicate sterling silver mesh work capture the spirit and essence of this ancient craft. You can also find authentic Thai baht chain necklaces made in polished sterling silver. The baht chains are available in four popular lengths: 16″, 18″, 24″ and 30″. The classic baht chain necklace is comprised of small rectangular links weighing a particular “baht” weight.

Have You taken the Time to Observe Nature?

Posted in Uncategorized by admin on the November 25th, 2008

Have you ever taken time to observe nature? Or truly digested the unspoken wisdom it has to offer us? Fall’s appearance is somewhat graceful as it gives its grand finale before it bids adieu. Not paying attention, we didn’t notice the slight shift of colors in the oaks and maples; nor did we see the aromatic pines pregnant with their geometrical cones. In its sporadic and beautiful display of life and death, Mother Nature is a catalyst of human life.

As the days grow longer and the nights become colder, we suddenly find ourselves reflecting upon our lives. Spring’s green leaves no longer adorn and shade the earth below. Orange and black monarchs no longer flutter in the distance. And right before our eyes, wind-blown foliage gathers across our now, wilting lawns. Almost bittersweet sorrow, we catch a glimpse of deer and their young sprinting through a sleepy forest. In our gardens, yellow and orange mums cleverly hide squirrels as they scamper for fallen acorns, pecans and hazelnuts. Black birds flock together as they prepare for their long winter journey to the Southern warmth.

Watching nature’s kaleidoscope of transformations - life, suddenly becomes clear. The endless cycle of metamorphosis is a mirror image of our own selves. Nature’s Divine plan was so well thought out that we, as human beings, could find resolve in its simple constitution. Spring is an explosion of new life! Its infantile beginning brings songbirds, buzzing bees, chirping crickets, newborn babies, newborn wildlife, and a wide-awake view of nature’s inherent offspring.

Slowly, the lazy days of summer creep into our lives. Towering trees now sway from the weight of their greening foliage. Lawns are vibrant green and bustling with tiny ants, arachnids and honeybees. Ocean breezes beacon us with its tantalizing sandy and salty aroma. Water is tepid and feels so soothing as we splash and swim in hot, summer sun. Days are long and filled with light and energetic rejuvenation. Sitting quietly on a park bench, we watch kids at play, birds frolicking in birdbaths, and flowers abloom everywhere. Sunsets melt into night like fire-filled globe of molten lava.

Somehow, we missed the end of summer as nature’s methodical and oh-so-slight transition into autumn became more and more evident. Like a thief in the night, our warm breezes and green leaves have vanished. Small woodland animals act more like vultures as they frantically gather nuts, leaves and other materials for their winter haul. Suddenly, life becomes full circle. Did you see it?

You see — nature is a perfected reflection of you and me. Our spring is the beginning of our life - our virtual existence. And as we grow and mature, our summer becomes translucent. No longer green behind the ears - we’ve experienced, we’ve thrived. We’ve ripened and become the success of our own achievements. But then comes our autumn. Like a butterfly’s cocoon, we have evolved. Slowly, gently, quietly - the sands of time begin to flow more freely. Before we realize it, we’ve become older, and now wiser. Slower now, we sit and reflect upon our lives. We don’t ask about the “what ifs,” the “whys” - we’ve merely become the fruit of our labor. Time is no longer a question of, “how much,” but of essence. Our little grandchildren now flock to our sides to help us rise from our chairs. Our grown children drive us to our destinations, and suddenly - life has come full circle. Young toddlers trace the outlines of our wrinkles with their tiny fingers. They don?t see the graying hairs and slowing pace. They think “old” people are wise, gentle and sweet. Did you see it? Not paying attention, we didn’t see the slight shift of age. We didn’t notice the graceful, grand finale before we make our final passage. Take some time today and observe nature. It may just give you the answer to life you’ve been seeking.

And if it doesn’t answer your question, then perhaps it’ll make you appreciate life just a little bit more than before.
